DIY Pottery Barn Heart Pillowcases

February 2, 2017

I recently have been drooling over this sheet set from Pottery Barn . . . ok more just the pillowcases. But who am I kidding, it's Pottery Barn and it's pricey, there is no way I am gunna pay $80.00 for a set of twin sheets. Looking at these I thought to myself that I could easily replicate them.

So here ya go . . .

What you need:
Black paint (non-washable/permanent)
Sponge brush
Heart stencil
White pillow case
Cardboard

Slip cardboard under before you start so you don't get bleeding!
Start a paintin'.
TIP: apply a liberal amount of paint to get the full sharp heart shape

I left the folded creases in the pillow to help create a guide to aline the pattern. Be sure to line the hearts up horizontal, vertically, and diagonally with equal spacing between them all. (Lots of lining up, I know)

And there ya have it!! Repeat on the backside.
TIP: be sure to let the whole thing dry COMPLETELY before you take out the cardboard

Happy crafting.

Safe Pregnancy Beauty Products

July 6, 2016

We are lovers of natural beauty products pregnant or not but when we are carrying a tiny human we are pretty conservative when it comes to the chemicals that we put on our bodies. Here are a few of our favorite products to use during pregnancy.

Our #1 rule:: If you are doubtful about a product or ingredient, opt out and find something different. There are many alternative products that 100% safe for use during pregnancy.

1) Nature's Gate Sunless Tanner :: We have made our rounds on the sunless tanner market and love this product. It is free of synthetic fragrance, parabens, and phthalates and made with olive oil.

2) Mama Bee Belly Butter :: Nothing feels better than slathering yourself in thick rich soothing belly butter to keep your growing body moisturized and the stretching itching skin at bay. No phthalates, paragons, petrolatum, or SLS.

3) Honey - Face Mask :: Pinterest is the motherland of DIY face masks and honey is one of our favorite ingredients with added egg, avocado, mayonnaise.....yes mayonnaise. Check out Pinterest to get creative with a homemade facial.

4) Sun Bum Sunscreen :: One of our all-time favorite sunscreens, the formal is thin and non-greasy feeling, goes on easy, moisturizing, and the smell is out of this world.

5) Baking Soda - Exfoliant :: We have used bakings soda or sugar for years for an exfoliant, it is gentle enough on the skin and you always have a never ending supply of it in the pantry.

6) Blemish Stick :: If you have terrible skin while pregnant like me and are constantly searching for acne products, use this blemish stick! Keep things natural when it comes to skin care during pregnancy. Burt's Bee's all natural products (that actually are effective) are a win-win in our book.

7) Soft Lips Balm :: With infused SPF and ultra-hydrating this lip balm is one of our favorites. Also, try not to lick it all off before the end of the day.

8) No More Dirty Looks Book :: Now, with the help of top scientists, dermatologists, and makeup artists, the authors share their compelling findings and the easy way to detoxify your beauty regimen. No More Dirty Looks also reveals the safest, most effective products on the market and time-tested home recipes. Finally, you don't need to sacrifice health for beauty - because coming clean is the best look yet.

9) Coconut Oil :: There are so many uses for coconut oil from deep conditioning hair, to skin moisturizer......just trust us and use it.

10) Banana Peel - Teeth Whitener :: We know you won't get the same results with a banana peel as you would with Crest Whiting Strips but this is tried and true and it defiantly will brighten your smile. Rub the peel across your teeth and let set for at least 1 minute. Side Note: baking soda sprinkled on top of your toothpaste during each brushing also does the trick.

11) Skin Trip Body Lotion :: Made of all natural products, feels like your skin just took a drink of water, and has the ultimate smell of summer. This lotion can be found at any healthy foods store in the beauty section.

Lazy Lake Days with The Baby Cubby

June 22, 2016

If you don't know the two of us are both expecting babies this fall. Between the two of us it will be baby #4 and #5, which means we have been through our fair share of diaper bags. While on the hunt for new bags for the new babes The Baby Cubby asked us to review one of their bags and we love it.

Diaper bags, in our minds must meet 3 main requirements:
  • Multiple handles so it can be carried several different ways.
  • Plenty of pockets and storage space for bit and small items.
  • Every surface of the thing must be waterproof and/or wipeable.
  • Its a nice added bonus if we like the way it looks.

After spending a day at the lake with their bag we fell in love and are currently in the middle of an intense game of rock, paper, scissors to see who gets it.

Why we love it:
  • The large middle pocket easily holds diapers, wipes, a changing pad, snacks etc.
  • The front zips open and becomes your wallet should you choose to make it so. There are pockets for credit cards, museum memberships, and any other valuables you'd like to keep there.
  • A long shoulder strap lets you carry it across your body, or on your shoulder while two shorter handles let you carry it more like a purse.
  • It comes with stroller straps to attach right to your stroller so you don't have to carry it at all.
  • All surfaces passed the wipe test as surprise surprise apple juice was spilled on it.
  • Its well made and can take the use and abuse of being taken on our outdoor outings but still has style for trips around town and out with the girls.
  • Two thumbs up for gender neutral. We are having boys, but this bag could easily be used for a girl which makes it usable for multiple children.

Summer Pregnancy Fashion

Megyn Jordyn

During your entire pregnancy no one likes to spend money on maternity clothes that you will be out of in a few short months. Instead of breaking the bank on a maternity wardrobe buy a few staple classic pieces and accessorize with jewelry, shoes, cardigans and jackets that you already have on hand. Break out your box of "when I was fat" clothes (if you didn't throw them out) and boom you have a few extra pants and tops to add to your maternity wear. In the end embrace your bump, love your bump, you will miss it when it is gone, and have fun dressing your bump for the 9 months!

  • Button down chambray tops or blouses that are billowy
  • A-line dresses. Think of pieces that float away from your stomach
  • Being bloated and just feeling flabby and fat your first trimester you want to draw attention away from the bump
  • Baby doll dresses that your bump can grow into

  • Time to show off that darling growing baby bump. Break out the spandex!
  • Body con maxis short or long
  • Fitted tee's to show off your bump, make sure the tee's are LONG
  • Tie button down shirts around your waist to emphasize the bump
  • Be sure to buy a size up so you can actually wear your clothes for more than a month or two, you always underestimate how quickly your bump grows

Top 10 Pregnancy Must Haves

May 3, 2016

Hello Cyber World, Megyn here!! I took a small hiatus due to this growing little BOY. I gotta tell ya that first trimester just about killed me. We FOR SURE thought we had another little girl on the way (isn't that the common fact: you are more sick with girls) so we were pretty shocked when we found out we had a Mr. on the way!

With Jordyn having gone through two pregnancies and myself this being my second, this list is tried and true from one mama to another! Share with us what you have loved during your pregnancies!!

|| Target Maternity Leggings || This one is a no brainer...what pregnant mama hasn't lived in stretchy pants. These are our favorites...cheap and cute.

|| Body Pillow || It's not technically the actual pregnancy pillow but who wants to spend the money on one...when this pillow follows the same principle as the pregnancy pillow. We both have both used ours pretty much our whole pregnancy, it makes sleeping so much more comfortable to be able to have support between your legs.

|| Tee's || These are cheap and well made quality...they hold up for your whole pregnancy and with the side ruching are flattering on your growing belly.

|| Cotton Dresses || This dress seems to stretch with you as you grow...and not in an unflattering way. We are all about being kept cool while pregnant and with the knee length, short sleeves, and light material this one is a winner.

|| BodyLotion || Tried and true with my first pregnancy, helps to relieve my dry, itchy skin and the smell is right on point.

|| Prenatal Gummies || I didn't have a problem with prenatals with my first pregnancy but being as sick as I am I can't seem to keep down the Costco prenatals...too much iron i've been told. These gummies taste good and I can stomach them. The trick I've found is to take them in the middle of the day with lunch (or when you are feeling your best) try to avoid right before bed though.

7 Ovia Pregnancy App: The more commonly known apps which we have both used and loved are What To Expect and The Bump App but the Ovia App is more a little more detailed and gives you more info on your weekly updates as well as daily updates.

|| Nike Shoes || These shoes are at a $40.00 discounted right now....so jump on it. Every pregnant woman wants to stay active with your pregnancy....that's hard to do without some good shoes. Not only do we love the comfort of these shoes (durable support shoes help so much with lower back pain) but they are neutral colors which can be worn with anything.

|| Bra Extender || With a rib cage that is daily expanding these little things will be your best friend. If you like us want to wear your regular bra vs. a nursing bra during your pregnancy. Motherhood Maternity also carries bra extenders.

10 || Bringing Up Bebe || Aside from all the norm pregnancy books this New York Times Bestseller is a must read. An American Journalist has her baby in Paris and writes all about the "French Parenting" way of raising your kids.
