Safe Pregnancy Beauty Products

July 6, 2016

We are lovers of natural beauty products pregnant or not but when we are carrying a tiny human we are pretty conservative when it comes to the chemicals that we put on our bodies. Here are a few of our favorite products to use during pregnancy.

Our #1 rule:: If you are doubtful about a product or ingredient, opt out and find something different. There are many alternative products that 100% safe for use during pregnancy.

1) Nature's Gate Sunless Tanner :: We have made our rounds on the sunless tanner market and love this product. It is free of synthetic fragrance, parabens, and phthalates and made with olive oil.

2) Mama Bee Belly Butter :: Nothing feels better than slathering yourself in thick rich soothing belly butter to keep your growing body moisturized and the stretching itching skin at bay. No phthalates, paragons, petrolatum, or SLS.

3) Honey - Face Mask :: Pinterest is the motherland of DIY face masks and honey is one of our favorite ingredients with added egg, avocado, mayonnaise.....yes mayonnaise. Check out Pinterest to get creative with a homemade facial.

4) Sun Bum Sunscreen :: One of our all-time favorite sunscreens, the formal is thin and non-greasy feeling, goes on easy, moisturizing, and the smell is out of this world.

5) Baking Soda - Exfoliant :: We have used bakings soda or sugar for years for an exfoliant, it is gentle enough on the skin and you always have a never ending supply of it in the pantry.

6) Blemish Stick :: If you have terrible skin while pregnant like me and are constantly searching for acne products, use this blemish stick! Keep things natural when it comes to skin care during pregnancy. Burt's Bee's all natural products (that actually are effective) are a win-win in our book.

7) Soft Lips Balm :: With infused SPF and ultra-hydrating this lip balm is one of our favorites. Also, try not to lick it all off before the end of the day.

8) No More Dirty Looks Book :: Now, with the help of top scientists, dermatologists, and makeup artists, the authors share their compelling findings and the easy way to detoxify your beauty regimen. No More Dirty Looks also reveals the safest, most effective products on the market and time-tested home recipes. Finally, you don't need to sacrifice health for beauty - because coming clean is the best look yet.

9) Coconut Oil :: There are so many uses for coconut oil from deep conditioning hair, to skin moisturizer......just trust us and use it.

10) Banana Peel - Teeth Whitener :: We know you won't get the same results with a banana peel as you would with Crest Whiting Strips but this is tried and true and it defiantly will brighten your smile. Rub the peel across your teeth and let set for at least 1 minute. Side Note: baking soda sprinkled on top of your toothpaste during each brushing also does the trick.

11) Skin Trip Body Lotion :: Made of all natural products, feels like your skin just took a drink of water, and has the ultimate smell of summer. This lotion can be found at any healthy foods store in the beauty section.

April 1, 2015

Just in time for April fools we have put together our list of favorite beauty buys. While we have tried a few of their more expensive counterparts we are tired of the being told over and over that they are the best product out there no questions asked. Sometimes they are and sometimes they are not, and sometimes you can still get away with using a less expensive product and looking great. Only you will know the difference. So don't be fooled into thinking that you must pay more for beauty because it simply is not true. If you use drugstore products what are some of your favorites that we missed? If you love the high end products try a few of our saves. Who can you fool?

CINDERELLA INSPIRED

March 12, 2015

Cinderella ranked high on our list of favorite Disney princess movies as children. Whisked from a world of work to be the belle of the ball and meet Prince Charming made for a good story. Add a Fairy Godmother, adorable talking mice, magical pumpkins, and a princess as sweet as pie and you have girls young and old looking at pumpkins and midnight a little differently.

Disneys' latest take on the fairy tale hits big screens this weekend and we, along with nearly every other girl in America, have caught Cinderella fever. So while we wait for our Fairy Godmother to arrive we'll be dreaming of our Cinderella favorites you'll find below. If she doesn't arrive in the next week or two we might have to plan a small shopping spree and take the Jimmy Choo glass slippers off our list! Enjoy! What would you add to our list?

YOU ARE MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN YOU THINK

February 11, 2015

One of the latest Dove campaign videos, Real Beauty Sketches features several women that were asked to describe themselves to a highly trained artist who could not see them. After they described themselves, a stranger they had spent time with described them to the artist. When both prints were done, they met the artist and were allowed to see both images side by side.

In each set of prints the results were the same. Strangers described the women more beautiful than they described themselves. As one of the women commented, "our self perceptions are generally.. harsh and unbecoming when really that is not how the world sees us."

If a perfect stranger would describe you as more beautiful than you yourself would, imagine how close friends and loved ones would describe you. For they know your inner beauty as well as your outer beauty and the two work hand in hand to make a woman beautiful.

Your family and friends, even acquaintances, see you taking care of others. Caring for children, spouses, and other family members. Checking in on a friend, neighbor, or acquaintance. Stopping quickly to pay $1.00 for the worst $.25 cent lemonade that excited children are selling on the corner. We are women. We take care of others. That is what makes us truly beautiful. But when you are ready to take care of yourself you can better take care of others and it becomes a cycle. True beauty from within paired with your unique physical beauty and you have a recipe for true happiness.

Beauty comes in many different shapes, sizes, colors, and forms. Aubrey Hepburn said "Happy girls are the prettiest girls." No truer words were ever spoken about beauty.  Confidence, happiness, your unique beauty, and how you treat others are what make each of us uniquely beautiful. See yourself as the world sees you. Beautiful. But also see what you want to change. Improve your beautiful self on the inside and out. Give yourself a mini makeover every now and again. You'll be happy you are taking care of yourself, and you'll have that extra confidence that you are beautiful no matter what your shape, size, color, or beauty preferences. Embrace your natural beauty and enhance it.

One of the women looks at both pictures in amazement and says, "I should be more grateful of my natural beauty. It impacts the choices and the friends that we make, the jobs that we apply for, how we treat our children.... it impacts everything. It couldn't be more critical to your happiness."

"You are more beautiful than you think, " says Dove. We agree.
