Summer Pregnancy Fashion

Megyn Jordyn

During your entire pregnancy no one likes to spend money on maternity clothes that you will be out of in a few short months. Instead of breaking the bank on a maternity wardrobe buy a few staple classic pieces and accessorize with jewelry, shoes, cardigans and jackets that you already have on hand. Break out your box of "when I was fat" clothes (if you didn't throw them out) and boom you have a few extra pants and tops to add to your maternity wear. In the end embrace your bump, love your bump, you will miss it when it is gone, and have fun dressing your bump for the 9 months!

  • Button down chambray tops or blouses that are billowy
  • A-line dresses. Think of pieces that float away from your stomach
  • Being bloated and just feeling flabby and fat your first trimester you want to draw attention away from the bump
  • Baby doll dresses that your bump can grow into

Fashion Friday - Shoes of Summer

July 17, 2015

Few things can compete with walking along a sandy beach barefoot, dipping your toes in the water, or wading in a lake, river, or waves of the ocean. That is until you step on an odd shaped rock or shell and want to cry like a baby. Any who, as much as we love going barefoot whenever possible, especially in the summer, when shoes are required these are the three you'll find on us most often.

Explorer Shoe

Hiking boots for days spent exploring trails, mountainsides, and waterfalls. Boots are ideal for you if you will be in rough terrain, packing a load of 20-30 pounds, and/or you are looking for support for bad ankles or knees. They area also recommended for beginning hikers and those who don't hike often. While some pick a hiking shoe over a boot thinking a hiking shoe will weigh less, many boots weigh mere ounces more than a shoe and may be better suited for you. Shop around and find a pair that is comfortable and gives you the support you are looking for.

SEA Shoe

The beloved Flip Flop for days spent seeing the Sea. Sea what we did there. Beach side at the beach lake, reservoir, or just bumming around town we typically burn through a pair a season, sometimes more until one of our husbands introduced us to Rainbow Sandals. Their claim is a better glue to hold straps, a special sponge rubber with "memory" to mold to each owners foot, and a parachute stitch to hold the whole bit together. Supposedly this combination results in a longer lasting sandal that is not only comfortable but  environmentally sound because they do last so long. So far we are believers. While they are a bit pricier than a regular flip flop, the comfort and fact that you don't have to buy a new pair each year make the price worth it. The pair pictured was $38 before tax.

Move It Shoe

Tennis shoes. Running Shoes. Whatever you want to call them they are the work horse workout shoe and stand in for any other shoe when needed. I often hike in mine. A few tips for buying this well used shoe; take a close look at your old pair and figure out where they are worn most. This will help you figure out how you walk and help lead you to a shoe that will better fit your foot. Also before buying any old pair on the wall of shoes figure out what you'll be using it for the most. Running, walking, cross training, hiking, etc. Shoes are made with a certain activity in mind. Buy for that activity and they'll suite you well. Ignore brand names. To a point. If you have positive recommendations for a certain brand sure give it a try. But don't just purchase a brand because you like the look or the symbol on them. Choose a pair that matches your foot and activity needs rather than your style and your tootsies will thank you!

And for those moments when shoes are optional.... we hope we find you BaReFooT, because,
bare feet are happy feet! :)

Easy Breezy Packing 101

July 10, 2015

Sandy toes, sunburns, and salty hair....where we soaked up our summer vacation that was not nearly long enough. This was the first time traveling with baby and I have to say she surprised us with how well she did on the flight. We had a blast and plan on returning to the beach every year to get our annual fix. Here are some packing tips to remember on your next vaca:

1. Always take more than you think you need clothes wise. Trust me on this one.

2. Roll your clothes, don't fold....you will fit so much more crap in your suitcase.

3. Remember to bring layers, even if you are going somewhere tropical, you never know what the weather has in store for you.

4. Always create a packing list, this makes things easier to not forget...although you might still forget something so hopefully you are close to a Walmart.

5. Instead of counting your personal item as your small purse, take advantage and use a large tote to fill for added packing room.

6. Always bring a clean garbage bag, this has a lot of advantages from packing home dirty/wet clothes, covering your luggage in a down pour, or even as poncho....I have used the poncho garbage bag more than once!

7. Buy the small 3 oz empty containers to fill with liquids that you might need instead of buying duplicates of your products in travel sizes.

8. Bring the jeans, leave the heels. Lets be honest heels/boots take up so much room be conservative with what you bring shoe wise. Go for ballet flats, flip flops, or sandals.

9. This will contradict what #1 says but if you are an over packer like myself take out 3 pieces of clothing before you zip up the luggage. Resist the urge to add extras at the last minute.

10. Always, always, always bring the long lens if you own a DSLR camera, we decided against bringing ours, we went with just bringing the short lens and regretted it from day one of the trip. Remember always to take lots of photos, get plenty of scenery but more pics with people in them.

Happy packing!! And enjoy some of the snapshots of my trip!

Save your Skin this Summer

July 8, 2015

It's no secret that summer can and does take a toll on your skin. But don't sweat it, read on to find our favorite summer skin savers (most are all natural) for gorgeous glowing summer skin.

No. 1: Ice It

No stranger to spas, ice is a perfect summer skin saver. Its FREE first of off. It will cool you down, and when used morning and night it is said to refresh the face, fight off wrinkles, fight acne and heal blemishes, and promote blood circulation. Simply take a cube or two and rub it over your face until it melts.

No. 2: Cover Up

For the not so perfect skin days when you need a little coverage. Cover blemishes and problem areas with a CC cream that sports a 35 SPF. The make up coverage will cover once, the SPF will cover twice.

No. 3: Trust The Bum

Sun Bum sunscreen is our new favorite for body and face. The sun protection can't be beat, the grease factor non existent, and the smell is heavenly. We have been using it all summer and have yet to be burned (while using it) once.

No. 4: Aloe Allover

While Aloe Vera soothes a sunburn. Frozen Aloe Vera is pure bliss on crispy burnt skin. Have some on hand for summer burns or even if your skin needs a little extra moisturizing.

No. 5: Eat Fresh

On the go this summer? Don't reach for junk or fast foods. Be prepared and stock up on fresh fruits and veggies. Your skins health depends on what you eat, so fill up on the good stuff. Strawberries can also be mashed and used as a face mask to exfoliate, brighten, and cleanse your skin. Just add a tablespoon or two of honey to them.

No. 6: Give it Time

Most of us expect products to work immediately but top dermatologists will all tell you that products need time to work. So whether you just picked up a new cleanser, moisturizer, or acne product, give it at least a month of use before deciding if it works for you.

No. 7: Drink Up

More outdoor time, climbing temperatures, and sunshine, means more water is needed to keep your skin happy and moisturized.

No. 8: Keep It Simple

Skin responds best to minimal products. Most of us need a good cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen, and retinol product. Take a look at what you are putting on your face everyday and see if you can downsize your routine.

No. 9: Cover Up

Nothing ages a woman faster than tan wrinkled skin and nowhere is your skin thinner and at risk of wrinkling than your face. So cover it up when possible and make your own shade with a wide brimmed hat.

No. 10: Cantaloupe CAN

"Can boost your SPF", says celebrity facialist Kate Sommerville. Cantaloupe is the ultimate skin moisturizer melon for the summer heat, so get out there and find some melons.

No. 11: So Long Scratching

Don't scratch your bug bites! Scratching can result in permeant scarring. While a cream may be a quick fix, you can also take an oatmeal bath, use a cold green tea bag to press on the bite, or cover it with a bandaid or scotch tape to remind you not to itch.

No. 12: Bigger is Better

BIG sunglasses that is. The skin around your eyes is the thinnest and can damage quite easily if you don't protect it. Glasses will also prevent you from squinting which leaves those dreaded lines around the eyes and forehead.

No. 13: Hands On

Remember to put sunblock on your hands!! We always remember to protect everything but our hands which also has very thin skin, and your hands are ALWAYS in the sun! Sunblock up to protect from premature aging.

No. 14: Face Off

Find a sunscreen perfect for your face and use it more often than any other product you touch this summer. If you are prone to oily skin or blemishes you may want to try a sheer sunscreen specially formulated for the face to avoid breakouts.
