Much to my husbands amusement this is MY longboard. (Seriously, he laughs almost every time he sees it.) I'm not sure what is so funny about it and frankly at this point I'm afraid to ask as I may not like his answer. Any whoo I was a Junior in High school and had somehow developed a crush on a cute self proclaimed surfer boy. Which is hard to do in Utah as we are landlocked. But, remember, high school girls will believe near anything and so the story goes. Long boarding soon came into the picture as my friends and his spent afternoons together, and willing to give almost anything a try I set foot on my first longboard. With little instruction I took off down the hill in a straight line and soon gained alarming speed and jumped off, running several steps to slow myself down. Over and over this happened as I did not understand how to lean, and use the weight of my body to make the board carve down the mountain making for a slower and more enjoyable ride. I refused to give up, so I kept riding "my way" until one day it just clicked. I understood how to do it, it worked, and I liked it. I was not worried about how many bones I would break on my way down the hill, or if I looked good to my crush and his buddies on the board. I just actually enjoyed it.
The crush on said surfer boy passed but my love of long boarding did not. A year or two later I purchased one of my own. This one. Megan being the hip younger sibling knew a good thing when she saw it and soon bought one of her own. When time allowed, off we would ride. No boys. No real plan or destination. Just the two of us, (sometimes another sibling on a bike nearby) enjoying each others company, the views, and seeing the world from a different perspective. Streets you have traveled by car a thousand times look different on top of a skateboard for some reason. We were chased by dogs, lost on streets we'd never been on, and on more than one occasion had to call for a ride home as we got too far away to get ourselves back. Those are fond memories now, of time well spent with one of my best friends. As I looked at my skateboard sitting unused in my garage since married life and babies have come on the scene I dusted her off and took her for a sunset spin. A little wobbly at first, but it all came back and I am happy to report, though years older, I still love it. So while the hubby will laugh from the sidelines I'll have to make time for my old board this summer and see if my boarding buddy will join me. Because, well why not? At any age time spent doing what you love is time well spent. Especially if you can include the people you love as well. Because, that my friends, is one of the things life is all about.
Here is the face my handsome hubby will get as Megan and I ride off into the sunset. :)
Of course not.... always all smiles for the husband right? Wink wink.
Since you are still reading, I know you are a like minded hoodie connoisseur and love this hoodie just as much as I do. It looks like a more structured jacket but is actually a soft, warm, easy to dress up or down hoodie. Roxy for the win yet again! I've had it for a few months but it has already become one of my favorite go-to pieces and I'm almost positive I'll have worn it clear out by the end of the summer season.
Roxy Hoodie // Similar T Shirt (Got mine at Ross recently for $8 bucks. Score!) // AE Jeans // Similar Bead Bracelets // Roxy Slip On Shoes // Similar Beaded Watch // Sector 9 Longboard
