Somewhere along the road of our parenting journey we became park people. It might have been one too many kicks to the head while rough housing in the living room, or one too many boxes of cereal spread through the entire house during a moment of pent up energy mixed with boredom. But, either way we know every park in within a 10 mile radius of our houses as well as all of our family and friends and what those parks feature in the way of swings, slides, etc.
After spending a summer mixing up our park trips so the kiddos don't get bored with one or the other we stumbled upon what we call "Park Packs". Basically a small bag of inexpensive items that turn a play ground into a castle, pirate ship, race car or whatever you would like it to be.
Today we share with you our "Pirate Pack". We made or purchased a few pirate items and take them to a few parks that are equipped with small ship wheel for steering the "pirate ship" and the park becomes a whole new experience for your little ones and you. Yes you. Grab a pirate sword and get playing, YOU are one of the best props in the sack. It's up to you to sell it, and they WILL believe it.
Here is our pack to give you some ideas. Halloween, or right after is a great time to pick up some items when everything goes on sale.
- Red Swords made from paint sticks wrapped in red duct tape.
- Dollar Store Crocodile (From the Disney Peter Pan movie.) (We take turns hiding and finding him around the ship.)
- Eye Patches from the dollar section at Target. Have seen them at Walmart also.
- Bandannas any party store or Walmart/Target.
- Pirate Hooks from the Target Dollar section.
- Cut out fish with paper clips on their mouths and a magnet on a paint stick for a pole.
- Wood Treasure Chest from Walmart. They have similar ones at the dollar store.
